Petrogradsky district, Saint Petersburg’s historic district is home to the Futurist, a new restaurant that occupies a landmarked 2022 club house. It’s located next to the Krestovsky and Petrovsky islands.
The restaurant received its name in honor of the eponymous residences in the central part of Petersburg.
Two architecture trends constructivism and art deco were leading ideas of the building. The basis of the color scheme of the architectural project is light shades of Jurassic marble, from which the facade is made. It was necessary to take into account the very architecture of the club house with its smooth natural lines: “Restaurant Futurist” should be its natural continuation.
The guiding thought was to show the beauty of the Restaurant Futurist project by implementing one of the first half of the 20th century architecture trend – Futurism.
Design team was inspired by Italian architect and a key member of the Futurist movement in architecture - Antonio Sant'Elia.
The curvature of the edges in the ceiling design sets the rhythm and an engaging play of light, especially in the evening artificial light setting.
Arched forms allow air to fill a small space and create an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility.
A lot of sophisticated materials were used in the restaurant, for instance, neutral anodized metal makes a slight reference to the space theme of futurism, perforated metal allows you to create a “shell” for objects, but does not clutter up the space, as it transmits light and air through itself as much as possible.
The original element of zoning is a partition made of metal chains with backlight, which also contributes to the intimate atmosphere.
Each element of the interior was thought out to the smallest detail, which allows it to attract attention not only visually, but also tactilely.
